ELIXIR, the European life science data infrastructure, celebrated in December 2023 its tenth anniversary. The infrastructure was officially launched on December 18, 2013, following the ratification of the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement by five countries and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

Over the past decade, ELIXIR's core mission has remained consistent: to facilitate researchers' access to and analysis of life science data by coordinating infrastructure and services across national borders.

As an international distributed infrastructure, ELIXIR is organized around national centres known as Nodes. In the last ten years, ELIXIR has expanded to include 25 Nodes, consisting of 22 Members and three Observers. This year, Romania and Austria joined the network. Each Node contributes its unique strengths to the infrastructure, sharing expertise through over 880 training courses, 30 staff exchanges, and 70 travel grants.
